Description
This was a moment I anticipated and waited for. As I walked around Stockholm's historic Gamla Stan, the old town, I rounded a corner and came to this spot where the sun was casting a powerful shadow from a clock. I framed the image and felt it was missing something... a clock and a shadow... cool, but no emotion, no warmth. So, I waited. I set up, hand held, leaning against the wall of some building that was doubtless a few hundred years old. If the building had time, so did I. I waited for something to happen, or someone to wander by to round out this photo. It didn't take long, and when they came by, it was just a matter of squeezing the trigger at the right moment.
I should point out that the hands on the clock were set in the perfect Timex prescribed position of 1:50 or 10 minutes to 2 that advertisers decided was just right for a photo or an ad. As always, that position is about balance. I have no idea if the shop in control of that clock set the time permanently in that position, something I only noticed months later when it was time to review my images from two months of travel.
