Artist's Description

Over the years, I've usually if not exclusively photographed Toronto's Flatiron building in the morning, with the sun mostly at my back, or on overcast or foggy days. On this occasion, the setting sun having ducked behind the Flatiron, created some exposure challenges but also an opportunity to also try a different compositional approach, enhanced by a well placed jet contrail, about to drift past the L Tower.

One of the most photographed buildings in Toronto, the Gooderham "Flatiron" Building dates back to 1891-92. It was designed by Toronto architect David Roberts Jr. who was also responsible for a number of other Gooderham commissions, notably George Gooderham's houses at St. George and Bloor Streets (1889) and Jarvis Street (1891). About Rick Shea

Rick Shea

Full-time marketing & business development consultant, part-time photographer, lifetime lover of photography. I love to explore. Whether I'm exploring the world or in and around Toronto, I like to explore with my camera. Many things catch my eye, including nature, landscapes, cityscapes, abstracts and people, but my favourite discoveries are often moments. As I walk, I keep my camera ready, adjusting settings as I go for changing light conditions, or in anticipation of a moment unfolding ahead of me. These moments can be fleeting and I like to be ready when they are.
