Description
In February 2008, a fresh dusting of snow covered downtown Toronto as I set out with my camera is search of some cityscapes. I was attracted by the tree and struggled to get a photo of it that wasn't overwhelmed by the office tower behind it. Once I decided to work with instead of against the tower's hard to ignore presence, it became a matter of composing the image in a way to make the building's grid lines and reflected light work with the shape of the tree.
Located in the heart of Toronto's financial district, the Toronto Dominion Centre symbolized Toronto's emergence as a major city and established a new standard for office buildings in Canada. The Centre launched in 1967 with the Toronto Dominion Bank Tower, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe with B+H as Architect of Record in Joint Venture with John B. Parkin and Associates.
