On a foggy June 2006 morning, I set out for a walk with my camera along the boardwalk that is a prominent and well-used feature of Toronto’s eastern Beach community. The fog was particularly heavy around the Ashbridge’s Bay area and the beach volleyball courts.
I am always visually drawn to lines and patterns and noticed the long lines of poles that hold up the volleyball nets and how they vanished in the distance into the fog. I wandered among them, trying but unable to take an interesting photo. I eventually gave up and retreated to the boardwalk where I came upon a shapely stand of trees. As I framed the trees in my viewfinder, I was able to incorporate the lines of poles, which provide some depth to this scene and also help to convey the density of the fog on that morning.
Full-time marketing & business development consultant, part-time photographer, lifetime lover of photography. I love to explore. Whether I'm exploring the world or in and around Toronto, I like to explore with my camera. Many things catch my eye, including nature, landscapes, cityscapes, abstracts and people, but my favourite discoveries are often moments. As I walk, I keep my camera ready, adjusting settings as I go for changing light conditions, or in anticipation of a moment unfolding ahead of me. These moments can be fleeting and I like to be ready when they are.
